Eugenia MitrakasAbout Us

The Greek Conference, organized through the Association of Greek and Affiliated Panhellenic Interests, is a not-for-profit entity and has been endorsed as an Income Tax Exempt Charity.

Details of our charitable aims are set out on our Charitable Aims page with our principal support being for the Cell & Gene Therapy Unit at the Murdoch Children's Research Unit.

We are a coalition of organizations and individuals with a strong Hellenic background and interests, drawn from a wide range of professional interests through the Diaspora, of either Greek background or origin or with a deep interest in the Hellenic past and an appreciation of the Hellenic history and culture.

Our Chairman is Eugenia Mitrakas, well known in legal and medical circles. Born in Lesvos, Greece, and an emigrant to Australia as a child, Eugenia has worked tirelessly in supporting organizations for education, culture, the aged, the disadvantaged and the community for many years.

Justice VardavakisOur Greek Patron is Justice Konstantinos Vardavakis, a leading judge of the Supreme Court of Greece (Arios Pargos), who also participated in both the 2004 and 2005 events.

Prof. DohertyOur Australian Patron is Professor Peter Doherty AC, the 1996 co-winner of the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his work on immunology. Professor Doherty delivered the Keynote Addresses at our 2004 and 2005 events and has a strong professional interest in the work being undertaken by the Cell & Gene Therapy Unit.

We successfully held The Greek Conference 2004, in Rethymnon, in Crete, Masterclass 2004 in Melbourne, and the Legal and Medical Symposium 2005 in Mykonos. We are now deep into planning for the MASTERCLASS 2006, to be held in Melbourne and then for the LEGAL AND MEDICAL SYMPOSIUM 2007 scheduled to take place on Kos from 15 to 21 September 2007. For more details on these events please travel to either our Masterclass 2006 or our Kos Greece 2007 page.

We encourage anyone interested in our activities to become a Supporting Member of the Association. To become a Supporting Member of the Association, go to our Contact Us page for more details.
